Current Lab Members
Principal Investigator

Brice Kuhl
Associate Professor, Department of Psychology. Brice received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. After three years as an Assistant Professor at NYU, he moved to the Department of Psychology at UO in fall 2015.
Postdoctoral Fellows

Soroush Mirjalili
Soroush received his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin where he worked with Dr. Audrey Duarte. He is interested in how different cognitive functions (such as attention and perception) are associated with episodic memory, and how episodic memory processes change with aging.

Yoonjung Lee
Yoonjung received her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, where she worked with Dr. Janice Chen. Her research focuses on how the brain organizes and structures past experiences, and how it prevents structured memories from interfering with one another or with new information.
Research Associates

Nicole Dudukovic
Nicole received her Ph.D. from Stanford University. She is an instructor in the Department of Psychology and the Clark Honors College. Nicole focuses on interactions between attention and memory and is interested in applying memory research to other fields, particularly education.

Zhifang Ye
Zhifang received his Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University where he used fMRI and machine learning algorithms to investigate the characteristics and behavioral consequences of neural pattern reinstatement during episodic memory retrieval. He is interested in understanding the neural mechanism of memory representation transformation during memory retrieval, new learning, and over time.
Graduate Students
Anisha Babu
Anisha is a sixth year graduate student in the Kuhl Lab. She received a B.S. from The Ohio State University, where she worked with Julie Golomb. Anisha is interested in using behavioral and fMRI techniques to study the transformation of visual information from perception to long-term memory, and how memory may be distorted in the process.

Tongle Cai
Tongle is a second year PhD student in the Kuhl Lab. She received a B.S in neuroscience from Duke Kunshan University, where she worked with Shan Wang. Tongle is interested in studying how memory is distorted and transformed from encoding to retrieval, and its relationship with imagination.

Ryan Gerald Monkman
Ryan is a second year PhD student co-advised by Dr. Brice Kuhl and Dr. Deepu Murty. He received his B.A. from Elon University where he worked with Dr. Amy Overman. He also worked as lab manager for Dr. Elizabeth Kensinger at Boston College. Ryan is interested in using behavioral and fMRI techniques to investigate the impact of emotion among similar memories.

America Romero
America is a second year graduate student in the Kuhl lab. She received her BS from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she worked with Dr. Kelly Bennion studying retroactive interference. Prior to joining the lab, she worked with Drs. Elizabeth Mormino and Anthony Wagner at Stanford University, investigating memory in healthy aging. America is interested in utilizing neural and behavioral techniques to understand the interactions between memory and attention, and how these processes change over time and with age.
Full-Time Research Assistants

Katie Hedman
Katie graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS in neuroscience and minors in biology and psychology. She is interested in investigating aphantasia, mental imagery, and visual memory. Katie also loves croissants.
Undergraduate Research Assistants

Sam Simon
Sam is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience at the University of Oregon. He is interested in the formation and recollection of memory, as well as machines that monitor brain activity.

Isabella Klawitter
Isabella is a second-year student majoring in Neuroscience. She is looking forward to gaining a better understanding of memory and how it may be altered, especially in relation with aging.

Bryanna Prado
Bryanna is a second-year neuroscience major and dance minor. She is interested in how the brain stores memories and how that could affect our body and behavior, as well as the factors that affect our ability to maintain memories.

Stephanie Haining
Stephanie is a second-year Neuroscience student. She plans to attend medical school after her undergraduate to pursue either an MD or an MD-PhD. She is fascinated by neuroscience and hopes to discover more about memory and how certain memory diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, could be slowed using new biomedical engineering techniques.
